Excessive Fast Idle

When engine is at idle in park or neutral, it has a high rpm problem. When you put transmission in Drive or reverse, it idles perfect the why it should.

What would cause this high idle problem and what can I do to fix it?

Vacuum leaks. Most common on the 1.9L is all the hoses that were eliminated
on the 2.1L . One of the many reasons I don't like the 1.9L setup.

Check the auto transmission linkage adjustment as per Bentley.
