Hey all,
Sussing out a couple leak locations prior to fixing things. Hoping for input from those who've seen it before.
1st: Middle slider window leaking between seal and slider frame. Take a look at the pic. The seal is less than 4 years old. Intend to reuse it, but how do I prevent this upon re-install?
2nd:
Windshield leaks, of course. Seal and glass new at the same time as above seal. I was going to try sealant first, but it that doesn't work, will the subsequent removal and reinstall be a huge hassle with this fresh sealant in the mix? If i recall, silicon does seem to peel off fairly easily.
Thanks! _________________ '87 GL w/ Reimo top |

I have had to seal lots of window leaks like this. Clear silicone sealer in a
calking gun is what you want. Use a strong blow gun and JAM it under the
edge of the rubber. You will find water, even after several dry days.
Then JAM your calking gun tip under the rubber edge. Make sure you get enough sealer in there that it is squeezed out by the rubber. You will end
up with a real mess. Wipe the excess off real well.
Almost every vanagon today has leaks like this. Few people notice
specially around the front window. Clear silicone was used right from the
factory several places on the vanagon. I keep the clear silicone, and a few
other calking tubes flowing all the time at my shop. |
