Good to know! I'll have to run the van through the carwash... it's rustfree at this point, i don't really wanna start any issues with that battle at this point.

idahoskier - it looks like we may get some more snow tonight or tomorrow over here. its been so damn cold here before today that as of last night i still had about 6-7" in my yard which is unheard of... usually if it snows here, it'll stick around for a day or 2 and then be melted off.

Wow, Jake - looks like an epic journey. That can wear you down, eh? On the good side you can just pull off and have a comfy place to sleep, but in a storm thats often a false security. In reality you cant GET off the road to park on a secondary road because of accumulated snow and plow berms. And if you managed it a plow may come along and put a berm between you and the road. Its happened to us but we had the advantage of a 3 ton vehicle with all steel front end that let us bash our way back out on the road. Great shot of a Vanagon carrying on in difficult weather..

Yeah, there was nowhere to pull over - you can see in that photo that Dixie's just parked on the road. We saw maybe half a dozen cars on that road all day...and no plows! The southern part of that drive had more than 8" on the road as did the last part, just before the border.

If you're interested, there are more pix on my Vanagon site in my sig.

Make sure to rinse the wheel wells out good too. The undercoating fails at seam at the rear of the front wells and then stuff gets in and rusts out the seam under the front door latches. Might want to clean up and re-undercoat that area in particular before it becomes an issue!

Agree, THAT is a place to look. To me it looks like VW put too thick an application on and as it shrunk over the years the thickness caused cracks to form. Once open, they simply hold wet salty water against the metal in there. I peeled mine back with a screwdriver and scraper, painted, then reapplied a sealer material. Both sides but driver's is worse on most I've looked at for some reason.
