scat 5.5 I beams with arp 2000 bolts
Engle 120 cam indexed straight up
clevite rod bearing
silverline on the mains and cam double thrust
case is dual relief 20 on the bore .

Sorry to point this out but I think you need to ammend your thread title to "1956" not 1965. |

are you going to leave the oil clearance at a thou and a half? _________________ Co-owner, 2 Brothers Guns

VW air cooled engines call for .0008" - .0028" for connecting rod clearance. Seems like this is probably an acceptable average... I do plan on checking with a bore guage as well |

For what bearings?
Clevite says the spec for their 780p bearings is .0015-.0038, you are right on the minimum. |

Well it has been a year and a halfsince i have touched this threadand my motor, life has gotten in the way and I got back into sportfishing again, as wellas bought new reels and having new rods built.. Ok back on my buggy build i started to clearance the block for the crank and i need to touch up a few places more. i alos beenreading other builds and used some tricks from thoseas well, clearance the cam bearing on the right side of the case and also matched the oil pump holes to the block, I guess i was having alittle too much fun with the dremel lol.. i will post pics later on those, I am still in the mock up stage on the short block side of it.
I have a few concerns though,,, Anybody use a windage tray anymore?
and on my rod bearing clearance at minimum would you run it as is ?
I really want to keep the clevites but is kolbens just as good ?
The cam is at zero backlash as well with doulble thrusts and the cam doesnt walk the gear when i test it so i think i am good there. |

Feel free to try other bearings, but I do not know if you will find any thinner. All brands seem to check right at .055 thickness.
Clevite bearings do run plenty of crush so rods can be opened to 2.2765 without worry.
the .0015 clearance can work OK but you must stay with 10-30 weight oil or thinner, and not push engine too hard when cold! |

so when i take everything back to the machine shop to have everything balanced i can have them massage the rod journals and it may open up alittle more using the same bearing? |

you don't need a windage tray unless your going to be track racing or something, I just have a CB thin sump and the windage pushrod tubes and I've never had a problem with sucking air even while drifting, But my past engines that did not have sumps would turn the oil light on after a drift (not good) _________________ 71 Super - Backroad Thrasher

Hmm, if you use a sump then you should be ok, but you may want to talk to some sand guys, sumps work great for hard cornering but I don't know about off road stuff. Dry sump is the best but pricey _________________ 71 Super - Backroad Thrasher

Thanks Modok! thats the news i was lookin for. alittle morework on the case and i can start the mock-up on the cylinders and see where that lies. then figure out the compression ratio .I think i readealier on a 120 cam like 9.1 on 91 octane. |
