Bought this 88 Cabby for My B day last March.... Paid $700 for it... Had a few probs but it's RUST FREE....

When I bought it

Did the motor mounts...Installed new front speakers.... still had the original 1988 magnets in the doors(cones had disinegrated) and of course new wires had to be run as the old ones were broken in a few places... So a 1/2 hour job turned into a 2 hour job
Also swapped in some new plug leads... runs much better (the PO had the wrong ones on it)
Sorted a rough running cold start issue... A disconnected vacuum line running into the drivers fender... Reconnected and runs way smoother... Also cleaned out the rain tray and "stitched" the plastic cover back into one piece... Musta been 1/2 a pound of crap in each side... used a stick to clear the rubber drains as they were packed solid... Added a "billet" gas cap too

Bought some Centerline wheels with almost new tires for $200.... Sold the Snowflakes and shot tires for $150... Very Happy

Polished them up (2hrs work for all four)

Added a fairly rare KAMEI "Hood Scoop" .... Found it on eBay.de..... Need to find some colour match paint...

Added blue LED's to all the instuments(no pic of the cluster)

Need to lower the front 1"-1 1/2".. and I'm done

Whatcha think??

Are you not going to lower the back? Otherwise, for $700 not bad.

Good find!! Solid cars are a great value. Cosmetics like paint aren't difficult to fix (or live with). Small issues that you've been able to diagnose and fix make this simply a no-brainer!!

Congrats. Enjoy

TMI products,
Is there any chance you guys would make this interior?:
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTE5NVgxNjAw/z/m2QAAOSw6EhUPa5r/$_1.JPG?set_id=880000500F

I would love to buy a new set for my girlfriends cabby. I have been looking for a nice used set for a few years but it seems like they are always gross. Im sure Im not the only one willing to buy new!

As far as that fabric pattern, probably not. But we will be coming out with some new patterns using suede and different stich lines.

Sorry if this is a thread jack, but If you guys (TMI) could replicate the Mk1 GTI fabric (blue velour with the red stripe), you would have several customers banging down your door.

Here is where the problem lies. I know people want the original fabric, weather its a watercooled, vanagon, or air cooled. In order to get the best pricing on fabrics, we have to buy between 500 and 1000+ yards. Unfortunately, the few guys banging down our doors will not be enough to make the investment.

Not saying it couldn't happen, but is it even available?

Very nice indeed! If you haven't already, get a lower suspension tie bar on that cabby, the increase in power & traction will fatigue the lower frame horns & cause failure of the unibody.
