My Karmann Ghia ownership has come to an end. It has been a fun and interesting experience owning the Ghia and we were happy to have it under our care for almost a year. I really had not done anything else to it since installing the new steering wheel which is a good thing. It made trips out to lunch, dinner, and various car shows including Cars and Coffee but for me, it was never a super fun car to drive. It was great to look at and chat about but that is where it ended. I also have a '71 Datsun 240z and I just enjoy driving it more.

The Ghia is headed to Nuremberg Germany. I did not believe the deal would ever happen as I was very skeptical at first. However, after a few emails and phone conversations with the buyer I knew he was legit and serious. We settled on a price and he made all the arrangements with a international logistics company to get the car to him. For my involvement, the whole experience was as pain free as possible.

Thank you to everyone for your advice and support. If I get another VW down the road I will certainly be back. Cheers!

Ah well, "horses for courses" in this case obviously not enough horses. Confused

Pleased you've promptly found an enthusiastic new owner and it's not sitting and rotting for "x" number of years.

That steering coupler crack should be addressed with replacement before the car is used again. If that breaks your path will become aimless.

I replaced the steering coupler with a new correct part from Wolfsburg West. I agree, I was a bit horrified when I saw the state of the one on the car.

I only found your thread today and read the last half.

I am sorry to read that you're leaving. Your restoration will be missed, I'm sure, and as for me, I shall miss your precise use of the English language - a tool like any other - and the clarity of your reporting.

Sala kahle (Zulu for travel well).

Thank you KiwiGhia for the compliments and kind words. I have a habit of owning the same kind of car multiple times so there is a good chance I will be back with another Ghia at some point. If I do it will be a pre-70 coupe. To date I have owned 4 classic Datsun Z cars, 4 1969 Camaro's, 10 3rd Gen F-body Camaro & Firebirds, and much more. I still have my '71 240z and I keep an ongoing build and repair thread on the Classic Z forums. It is presented in the same fashion as this thread was. For me, half the fun of doing the work is documenting how I do it and sharing it with everyone.

Enjoy your Z car. Looks like you are having a good time with it. One of my good friends had one a while back. He convertabilized it ( a lot of work) and engine ran on triple webbers. Fun car to hit the highway with.
