|
|
I'm in vancouver for a couple days and looking for leads on eurovan westy full camper interior parts. Specifically the rear bed and cabinets. Not too interested in sink stove and fridge. Can anyone point me to some junkyards or shops or maybe one you seen sitting in a driveway for a long time? Thank you!

Only VW "van" wrecker in the area that I'm aware of, worth a try.
Curious to see what other ideas come up, always looking for goodies... _________________ 1981 Vanagon, Aircooled 2.0 AFC

Found a donor van. Currently trying to accomplish an interior swap in 2 days in the junkyard. Kinda cramps your style when you live in your van...possibly could use some driveway space this weekend if anyone is bored/free. Also I will have a westy weekender interior that needs a new home along with the westy fridge/sink/stove setup if anyone is interested or in need.. |

SO...found a donor and spent 2 days in the junkyard swapping interiors. Worked 9:30-5 the first day the 9-4 the second day and ended up with this:
The only thing that is missing is the rear bed cushion. I have a temporary Vanagon cushion in service until I find one. I decided to not swap the sink/stove/fridge as I already went a different direction with the van and bought a fridge and stove sepratly along with installing a craftsman toolbox:

Awesome work.
Where is that donor van anyhow -- Vancouver? -- I'd sure like to pick up a pop top and try and do a conversion ala Xtremejeepin's thread. |

The donor didn't have an engine; I'm assuming it had the 2.5 gasser. My van does have a 1.9 TDI (AHU) though
The Donor is at Coast Import Wrecking on Mitchell Island. The top did have a little damage that would need repair. There is a second Westy Eurovan CV there but it was burnt up pretty good and I'm not sure how much of it is usable. I'm going back tomorrow if anyone has anything they'd like me to scope out... |

I finally got around to finishing my interior swap. I had to cut out parts of the floor to permanently (and safely) mount the seat rails. Now the bed folds perfectly flat with the rear cushion which was starting to get extremely annoying.

Wow! I never saw a Westy Eurovan interior before! The rear cabinets are SOOOOOOO much nicer than my Winnebago ones! And the rear seat rails look great. Kinda makes me realize what a lousy job Winnebago did
Well, on a happier note, I just got my materials for remaking my rear cabinets today... _________________ Peter vT

WTF. Why did we get shafted with Winnebago down here? I mean, I love my EVC but even the Winnebago people would have to admit that Westy made a better product. _________________ -------

I must say, the westy interior is pretty sweet and when I figured out it was produced on the short wheelbase EV...well I had to find one! I also found MANY low mileage 92-94 westy full campers (cv model) in canada selling for 10-15k canadian...much much less than the american winnies ask for...I wish I knew all the rules and loopholes around importing..I'd love to make one of those into a TDI... |

Very nice work!
I have the same interior that I will be swapping into my Eurovan. How did you install the seat tracks?
The factory used some type of polyurethane glue to attach the aluminum track to the floor, but I'm a little worried about trying it and having the seat and rail launch in an accident. |

I dry fitted everything first to make sure I had the bed situated where I wanted it as I have it sitting a little differently because of my tool box. When I was happy with where it had it and that it slid properly, I traced the rails on the carpet with magic marker. After that I took everything out and got to work. I cut the carpet with a razor and pulled the carpet out first then cut the length of the trace out with a circular saw. The plywood is only about 1/2" but there's a slight bit of space under it so you are not hitting metal. Then I cut the front and back thinner sections with a 90 degree oscillating cutter thing; I don't even know what to call it but it worked well. I pulled up the wood and the only thing left was to cut out the 1/4" steel plate welded on the pass side where the old seat rail bolted in. If you are installing the cabinets as well, you will encounter the same one on the driver side. A grinder and patience will take care of them. If you feel the need, spray paint the bare metal or do what I did and just coat them in glue when time comes. Installing the cabinets also requires more cutting of the plywood flooring. Once everything is cut it is simply a matter of gluing the rails in. I used liquid nails and then screwed sheet metal screws alternating on each side about every foot. You may need to drill a pilot hole or use high quality self taping screws. Vacuum the mess, install everything and enjoy! |
