|
|
Today was a big day, we got a huge donation of food for our food bank. The pet food bank started as an idea and is now a pretty big deal. When we first moved here to Arizona we started doing local charity work for animals and slowly got more and more donations of food that we gave out. It was alot of work and time driving around handing out pet food so we created the food bank. Now once a month food gets passed out to the needy pet owners in our area. Today was the big Purina donation we receive once a year from Flagstaff and we go fetch it ourselves most of the time. It took two trucks and trailers today to pick up the pallets you see, and the crew cabs were full also with several pallets broken down lol! It's a big deal but man is it ever rewarding to give out this food. It's over 20,000 pounds of food but it will all be gone in roughly 6 months!

I'm truely greatful that I don't have to worry about how I'm going to afford the next bag of food for my dog. It really makes me happy to know that there are resources out there for people who aren't as fortunate. You deserve a "Fucking Awesome" award. Great work! _________________ - Marc M.

I love giving the food out, that is the reward. I wish more people would give what they can to others, it is the very best feeling you can have. That's why I am such a big fan of thrift stores and why I shop there so much. Giving to others is very rewarding stuff, even a small donation at Christmas time will make you feel good. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Just curious, how do you store all that and keep critters out of it? I would think this is a big draw for rodents and thats a LOT of food to store. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Today we got a donation from the Blue Buffalo dog food company. My friends own a pet shop and they allowed the donation to be trucked to their store so that it can be safe while we find homes for all of it. It takes a lot of work and many volunteers to make this happen. The pet food bank is rolling right along feeding the needy pets of our great state of Arizona!

Do you have a website? How do you get the word out, local vets/shelters? |
No website, once a month we take a trailer to the Catholic charities parking lot and hand out the food. The foodbank works with a local pet adoption group that has phone line volunteers to take down info from anyone that wants the food. The main criteria is that the pet owners are not breeders, and that they get their pets spayed and neutered. You can show up in a fancy car and if you want the food, you can have it. Getting the food is a privilege and not an entitlement, that is toughest part for recipients to understand. Unlike a government handout, this is purely a volunteer based charity, it doesn't happen unless people are willing to give their time and energy to the cause. We do this because we love animals, period. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam.
