|

Hi all, this should be a straightforward question for many of you.
I have my type 4 1700cc in bits and I need new barrels/pistons/heads. I wanted to keep it standard but there seem to be no parts in the UK at the moment so instead of literally having to wait weeks for a boat from China I thought I might buy standard 1800cc barrels/pistons/heads instead.
I know that the fitment to the case is the same, and the 66mm stroke is the same, but my question is will these bolt straight on with no changes needed in pushrods, tubes, rockers, tinware, or indeed anything else at all?
Thanks! |

If my memory serves me right the engines ran the same Carbs in 73-4.
Depending on brand the heads might have to be opened up for the cyls.
Your talking UK while we on this side of the pond talk US...apples and oranges. |

Shouldn't be any problem there as I'm buying the 1800 heads too |

Or are you saying that even if I buy new 1800 heads and new 1800 barrel I still might have to work on the heads to make them compatible? |

Understand you have the 1.7 and wanted to go with 1.8 P & Cyls and were wondering if the heads would work.....they should.
If you go with the 1800 P&C and also the 1800 heads then you have a match.
I was looking at the increase of power desired where I seem to recall heads were the same either way. Basic HP increase was the P & C in 74.
1975 in US was a FI 2.0 |

The 1800 heads had bigger valves - the PC should fit right on no problem. You can even go 2.0 with proper crank and rods- then mate the 1800 big valves and have a great combination- will post when mine are running. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.
