Have you checked into the heat yet? I have found that the stock pipes/heat box are way to long and must be shortened a great deal. I have only seen pictures of one set and they did not appear that they would flow well. The guy also had to make a custom box.
I was directed to the new gas heaters but they start at around a thousand dollars US.
Starting to get discouraged LOL |

No I havent, but I'm sure your right. I've never owned a air cooled vw so I have no idea how good it works. With the custom manifolds I'm going to have with the turbo, it's going to be a pain to make heater boxes. I was thinking about using an electric heater with a blower under the dash. I'm sure I can fab something up on the cheap that will work. I actually think I still have a blower from my 914 I can use.
The gas probably works great, but I feel like it could be a fire hazard. I'm sure it's safe though. |

I have some questions about the beam, I really don't want to start a new thread for them.
I'm going to install the SAW adjusters on them myself, but while I have the beam apart should I replace the needle bearings? If so should I use bushings, ,urethane bushings, or should I put needle bearings back in? If everything still feels ok should I just leave the originals in?
I got the passenger side blasted and epoxy primed. I was going to shoot the underneath of the car with bc/cc to match the rest of the exterior, but I think I have decided on using a por15 paint instead. |

I got the left heater channel and rocker on. I had to make a lot of the sheet metal behind the outer panels because of rust. My car came with some replacement sheet metal, I'm guessing from the mid 90s and it fits great.
I've been fighting some of the metal I got from kgpr.

It definitely is. Ill be relived when all the rust is replaced and its in primer.
Found some rust on the beam, so Ill have to get a replacement. I think Kustomwarehouses rebuilt beam is what I'm going with. |

You asked a question before about the 17"x7.5" rims on my Ghia... I haven't had to shave or roll the rear fender lips - Yet.

Your wheels have a lot of offset don't they? Porsche boxer wheels right?
I'm going to use the chevy 5x4.75 pattern, I have my heart set on these wheels, 15x8 and they have a few backspacing options that I think I can make work.
I'm panning on flaring the fenders.
I did see that cable shifter setup. I'm going to copy this for the transmission end,
http://www.cableshift.com/914/914%20page.html
McMaster Carr carries push pull cables that will work.
I'm tempted to attempt flipping the differential myself to save some cash. |

Well that was the last of the metal I had to replace so it should be smiling. Got it in primer as well. Started prepping the pan for por 15.

I got the top side of the pan wire wheeled and ready for por 15, hopefully I will have the underside stripped and painted tomorrow.
I'm going to have the turbo with efi, so I will need to run a return line, I'm thinking 3/8 supply, and 1/4 return. Should I route the lines through the tunnel like stock? Or have them outside the tunnel? |

My wheels are Porsche Cayenne 17"x7.5" with 53ET. They have a deep positive offset -
Here are a few nice examples:

Hmmm, I might be able to fit some corvette 17x7.5s on the car then. Inwas planning on using a 15" wheel with a decent amount of back spacing. I'm planning on flaring the fenders. Id like to get a 225-245 under it, what width tires are you running?
Got the underside of the pan cleaned up. Going to start painting it tomorrow.

I'm currently doing mockup with 205/50ZR17 tires that were take-offs from my Mazda 5 Sport. Looking to drop to a 205/40ZR17 in front, and possibly go to a 235/45ZR17 in rear. But, I'm working to avoid flaring or cutting the fenders. I have found some 185/35-17's for front if required, but hate the low-profile sidewalls.

If be glad to fit tires that wide under the car, but I agree with you. I don't want tires that low ether. I have a tire sizing tool, I'll have to play with that. My problem is I won't have all the weight in the car when I size them up, so I won't be able to set the ride height to where I want it.
I got the underside of the pan Por 15'd.
