That blue vinyl on the lizard car sure looks like a sloppy installation for anything that came out of the Karmann factory.
Can't imagine how it would get on both those cars though.

I can just imagine this conversation happening at the Karmann factory some time back in 1955:

Boss: Heinrich, I'm afraid your vork is just too sloppy - I'm afraid ve vill haff to let you go, even if your father is vone of our suppliers.

Heinrich: Oh yeah! Vell you can't fire me - I quit.
... and I'm taking my father's big roll of blau plastic vith me.

It's come unstuck/shrunk over the years, but yes not too pretty Smile

Awesome car. My March 56 had blue vinyl on the doors also. I never knew if it was original or added to keep the door panels dry. I really like the painted tar board for the front luggage, my March 56 also has this.

I had a January 56 Ghia that I guess was parted out by now from the guy that bought it. The interior was beige ad just like yours with all vinyl and a fabric glove box.

I saw your rear bulb picture. I think this was from the Aug 55 dated manual that I have and it shows the bottom bulb sideways? Waiting to see this in a real car.

What do your rain gutter look like at the C pillar?

I like Lind's no key hole for the passenger side!

I saw this on one early 55 Built car a spring to hold the back seat down?

I sent you a PM on the information I had on the car from 2000 when I noticed it first for sale, likely here

Employee - We're out of door liner.

Floor Manager - We got an extra shipment of blue vinyl. Use that.

Employee - But that'll shrink.

Floor Manager - By that time it'll be somebody else's problem.

Employee - Good enough for me.

Where is this body from Nov 55, it was 608? It had been parted out and Jim at House of Ghia had it back in the 90s. He got the body before it was cut up but could not located the chassis in Oregon. I believe and Richard Troy bought it. This would be nice to marry to an early Chassis......

I had a nice speaker grill.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the input, and information. That's another owner to add to the list. Hopefully i will be able to make contact Smile

Interesting on the blue vinyl, was used for quite a few months!

The rain gutter is the regular type, not moulded to the body.

The spring on the back seat is a cool early detail, it finished before body#494,as that has regular hinges, it also has the passenger door handle with no key.

Never seen a horizontal bulb holder , hadn't even picked it up in the manual Smile
