Ok, I did it! I took the oil reservoir off and changed the oil. What a PAIN IN THE ASS to get that reservoir off. Any way, it doesn't seem to be leaking from the oil pan, but the bottom of the engine is covered with splattered oil. I'm going to give it a good degreasing treatment tomorrow and get some good pictures of the underside.

Now for the question of the day. The pieces to hold the oil plate and screen on are 2 pieces; a threaded rod and a nut. Do they make them as 1 piece? This is a real pain in the ass when the nut comes off and the rod is stuck in there.

Thanks.

The threaded bolts are to be installed into the engine case and remain in place. The acorn nuts then secure the screen and plate to the case.

If you had a one piece nut/bolt, you would risk stripping the soft magnesium of the case if you over tightened.

Actually the studs are meant to stay in the block . Slide on over studs -Gasket ,screen ,gasket , plate, copper washer, nuts.

Be mindful that those nuts need very little torque . Like 5 lb.
To much will pull the studs from the block and ruin the day

How often is it recommended to pull that screen if you have an oil filter?

I have a full flow as well and have to admit I don't know if there is a ' right' answer but I check about every 3 or 4 oil changes and never had a problem .

I would think that if you had anything floating around in your oil that is large enough to be held inside what looks like a repurposed section of screen door, you'd likely know about it long before you pulled the oil strainer to check it. Smile
