Is it posible for this gearbox to not fall apart with power over 150ps and over 200Nm.Car will be about 550kg weight. _________________ VW Golf mk1 GTI`77,

Hi years ago there was a guy that had a buggy that had a 78 x 92 motor that had 48 Ida's big cam he ran it with a split case trans on the street how much HP he was putting out with that motor I don't know he ran it for years I used to street race him with my bug .i would be burning the tires on my bug leaving the line and he would baby it off the line .no tire burning .maybe if you drive your car with care and you don't smoke the tires showing off to your friends .and only get on it when the car is moving down the road on a free way to pass some one I think your trans would live .but shop around and find a newer trans to replace the split trans .i think maybe you spent all your money on your motor and you just want to see how it runs .lol maybe not I say go for it run it all that can happen is you blow up the split case trans .lol just my two cents spencerfvee

You dont build that engine, and then drive like a priest. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

I don't understand the question. You asking for a Maximum but say "over" 150ph and 200nm. That could be 1000hp and 1000nm torque.
I know in the 80s some drag guys used the split case transmission.
Hp is at all nothing "torque" that makes the problem. It's torque and grip and weight.
550kg car and 200 nm should be work fine with a we'll build split case _________________ 1960 1584cc turbocharged, 35,5/32 (11,117s 1/4mile )

so at first i thing the split case is as strong as the tpy1.
i would say it so, if you want that torque in your car you could be ok with a rebuild typ1 or split case. but on the save side you are with a pro street.
with typ1 you also have much more options to change in gearing and co. _________________ 1960 1584cc turbocharged, 35,5/32 (11,117s 1/4mile ) |

this is a little off topic, but certainly interesting...
from a Canadian custom thread in the 58-67 forum. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=407138&start=40

a very short R&P from the factory, for a tunnel box could be useful. |
