That does not look like an original guage. However the sender unit is adjacent to oil filter line. Therfor it it would be the oils presure sending unit. Any Vdo one would work as long as the throw would be 0-70 to match gauge. |

No 356 came from the factory with an oil pressure guage, the one illustrated is aftermarket, and it's sender would be a large cylindrical can, about 25mm in diameter, 25 mm tall, with a large flange around it's base, and a single wiire terminal. The sender shown on the engine is for oil temperature, which was electronic, starting with the 356A. Pre-A's used a mechanical guage, opperated by a tube, fill with ether, which expanded, and moved the needle across the dial. Low oil pressure was warned by a simple idiot light. I think that, over the years, the matchup values between guage and sender varied, therefore, you will need some sort of catalog guidelines to buy a matching sender. You would then have a saleable pair. |

My pre a continental has an 9/55 moto meter oil temp gauge. Previous own cut the sending unit line, which was a capillary tube as stated above. I'm gonna send the gauge down to North Hollywood Speedo, as they can rebuild them back to spec... _________________ '55 Porsche Continental
