2nd round of blocking then primer. Man, is this thing straight! found some more rust on the a pillar in front of the door behind the fenders. That's being quickly remedied and hopefully in paint soon!

Went to the dealership and looked at the shadow blue in person. Back to deep blue pearl (LB5R) lol

Getting the rust on the A pillar fixed and removing unnecessary brackets and closing up some holes in the engine bay. Wheel wells will get a fresh respray of undercoat.

Yeah, my paint and body guy ran into to some staffing problems over the holiday and had to put my caddy on the back burner until he hired some new guys. He got some new blood in there now and they are supposed to be extremely good, so hopefully it goes into paint this next week.

Nice color. It's just a bit darker than mine. Are you doing all one color or some of another color?

Putting things back together. I wanted the plastics to look fresh and new, so I had Corey paint the various plastics with a special plastics paint. It required a special prep, but I think it turned out phenomenal.

Corey's having the red stripe, the GTI emblem and the piping on the door cards hand painted by a professional pin-striper.

Corey brought in a professional pin-striper to do the grill and the door cards

VW never made GTI style door cards for the smaller 4-door rabbit or pickup doors, so I made my own. I took some plain dark blue door cards from a 4-door rabbit, had the pockets sewn into the doors, incorporated the lower door vent and hand painted the red stripe over the original blue piping.

Brought it home form Corey's shop (Smitty's autobody in Meadow Vista, CA). I am sooooo happy with the work Corey did and putting up with all the little things I asked him to take care of. Corey is primarily an air-cooled guy (although he does regular insurance work) and I couldn't be happier with the detail he put into my water-cooled VW.

Now begins the process of putting the interior together, buttoning up the motor and exhaust system, lowering it, , replacing all the plastics and rubber that needs it, new wheels, etc, etc....

Corey is going to be starting on my '56 bug next. I'll be starting a build thread and post a link to that when I do.

So do we get to see the finished product?

I had a brand new silver '84 gti with blue interior back inthe day. Paid $9,049.00 for it. I'd pay $25K if i could buy a new one of those today! Even if they were made in PA and were built pretty shodily.I loved that Car. It was stolen in 1989 with about 50,000 miles on it. Never found. Vanished in Dorchester, MA. The gearing was great on them. Of course doing 65 on the highway the thing would be spinning at close to 4000 RPM....

Good lick with the '56. Now i'll head back over to Oval Land. See ya.
