My original vw muffler finally fell apart this spring so I desided to give it a "abarth look-a-like" overhaul. The idea is to have a 4 tip muffler with the vw original "equal lenght" guts.

How does it sound? I have been considering doing the same thing to a 40hp muffler.

It's 35mm O.D./ 32mm I.D raw stainless tubes I polished up. One Idea was to simply use them in stock outlets on a NOS original vw 36hp exhaust I have as "cleaned out" pipes.

Well, that turned real quite nice. I have to admit that I had doubts when I saw the first mock up. Really, very nice job! Cool

I would use a new muffler, cut it open and rework it then add the abarf tips. or build a new muffler with 4~5" stainless tubing and make it so it works like a 4 into 2 into 1 out 4

It is quite loud inside the car. Has a very low sound. I used a NOS round bus muffler and 4 taper tips to make the fake Abark.

Sounds great.

Why is the popping sound when you let off the gas? Too little backpressure or is that common with 4 tips?

If you did not add the wadding to the ends of the muffler how do you think it would affect the sound?

Is the popping sound when shifting b/c there is too little backpressure.

I have a round muffler that needs some repair and was wanting to make a Arbarth 4-tip copy as well.

Sounds great, but the popping sound when shifting would be nice to eliminate.

Any ideas?
