I have another one: How do owners of FrankenBugs--say, a '72 body on a '67 pan--register/title them? |

This one is more for the Performance forum but there's no "stupid questions" thread over there. Anyway, here goes.......
If putting new heads on a stroker motor, do you have to redo the rocker geometry? It'd be the same rockers and shafts, just on different heads. I know the shafts would have to be re-shimmed, but once the geometry is set, is it set regardless of new heads? |

You always check rocker geometry with new heads, or even just new cylinders. you want to ensure your valvetrain lives a long healthy life right? _________________ Schnell, SCHNELL!

Of course I do! I just asked because I can't recall ever hearing of anyone having to recut their pushrods or anything just because they put new heads on. Regardless, it's worth re-checking! |

I just removed the speedometer completely. But I can't get the outer rings out without damaging it.
Is there a way to remove them? |

I have a 1973 Super. The chassis number (I assume it is the number plate behind the windshield on the driver's side) is 1332124149.
I tried looking the number up on the chart here:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
But none of my numbers fit, so I'm wondering if I am using the correct number. I went to a VW chassis calculator site, and it says based on that number it is a 1303 curved front glass vw.
I guess my stupid question is, other than paying the $75 and waiting 8 months for a birth certificate from the VW auto museum, is there a way to find out the particulars on my super beetle? |

Thank you. Thank the vw gods for this stupid questions thread.
I had the chassis number. Engine is not original, so that doesn't do me much good, and It's too freaking cold outside right now to try and jimmy the hood open, lol.
Thanks again,
Rick |

For 1968 VW,
1. Is there a one-fits-all dial indicator that lets me measure the play on the wheel bearings and the flywheel play?
2. On the brake light switches (dual master cylinder), is there a torque value that I need to set? |

Hello,
I think I'm missing a tube to connect my front defrost in my 1974 Super. The part is located under the front hood springs in that dark hole on each side.
Picture or part number would be great.
Thanks.

I have a '74 Beetle that is having some problems. I think it may be the solex carb on it. It has been giving me issues since I bought the car. My question is what carb can I bolt on? It is a 1600cc.
I know there are endless options, but I just want something relatively easy to tune and reliable. It is a Baja style bug that sees very little offroad action. It barely sees the road actually. |

Your best bet is to send it over to Tim at volksbitz.com and have him rebuild it. Its is cheaper and you will have a much better carb than any new. |
