Model T VW

Pondering taking a future project in a different direction. Still in the "I dunno, do I really want to do this?" stage.

Here's the idea - had seen a really crappy hacked Model T C cab sedan delivery VW converions on here or Ebay at some point. Was thinking that would be really cool. And even though it wouldn't be a Volksrod per se, would be using a lot of techniques, such a T wires wheels etc. Would actually be after a "stock" model T C cab look instead of a rod. Would be basing this on a 67 type 1 pan.

So - does anybody have any insight on doing something like this?

Did the Model T ever come with wire wheels, I thought they all had wood spoke "artillery" wheels?

Still in the "WTF was I smoking when I came up with this idea" phase. Way more complicated than initially thought - but this is new?

Here's where I am on the thought process - try to find a donor T if possible that would give up frame, fenders, hood etc. Aftermarket glass or steel parts are a strong probability, but having a hard time with $1500 just for a set of fenders...

One problem is that I really think I want front brakes and adapting brakes to a T axle is not for the faint of heart, so would need to upgrade to a Model A or similar front axle. VW beam is out of the question - they look out of place on something like this even with a LOT of work.

Don't want it to look like a "kit car", so hiding the engine is important. Was given the suggestion of reduction boxes to get the ass end up also would give me gear reduction if needed - depending on tire/wheel I end up with.

In the meantime, I am towing my partially restored 67 pan up to my storage garage so I dont have to scrape the ice off my Subarus windshiled.

Ideas/suggestions welcome.

Radar wheels, disc brakes mount to wheel hub, adapt M/C calipers to home made brackets. There is a "T" type build on here & it has a mid engine setup. With a little help from some people here & a little fabrication on your end & you could have the car of your dreams. I think a Porsche trans/diff set up with the torque tube you could run a front engine & use type 3 cooling tins & fan. The rad shell would be functional air intake.

Any link for the T build? Not wanting to get totally nuts by doing front engine - have seen a Volksrod last year that pulled that off nicely. Right now looking around for different ideas and approaches.

Wanna do some more digging on the flipped beam concept. That would actually make things a lot simpler in many ways. There a guy on Volksrods that apparently has done this and it works very well, just no available documentation......

and there is also the aluminum/no shock tower beam approach, which would clean up the front, but screws up the radiator location......

Still lots of digging to do. And yeah - the streetrod look would be cool, but trying to stay a little more stock(?) looking of possible, but I will still probably end up with later Ford wires......

In the same category close to me is a 'model 'A' coupe with vw front beam/steering, vw trans/eng, body & wheels orig, looks good, owner says he wanted something different & roadworthy.

I apologize for hijack but thought would share when I read about Model A comment in prior post.

This is my brother's "Faux Ford". Flavoring of Model A sitting on a 1974 I believe pan. All VW suspension and engine. exhaust is plumbed rear to front.

He fabbed frame horns and hairpins etc to give Model A rod look. front and rear sheetmetal was fabricated. fuel tank fills from radiator cap

Go for the C Cab. I have seen your prior work. will be sharp I am sure.

I will load in separate post in this forum. that will keep your C Cab post clean. my brother is not much on the computer.

if interested my son who was 15 at the time built a video. it's on you tube if you search fauxford. says joy ride. some good driving footage. may get a little repetitive. we were in town visiting and just filming for heck of it. son decided to build video.

The video was fun. Thinking the last time I was in Texas, stayed in the Woodlands area. Used to do a lot of work on the gulf in a previous life. Was down there so much, I started picking up the accent. Laughing

I have a cousing down in Dickinson and will come down to visit him in another year or two.

Anyway - fun car. real interested on what he did with the front end. Most hot rods with a VW beam look wrong to me and what I can see of this, it looks pretty good. Might have to do with the frame horns. Thanks!
