Hi everybody -

Thanks for all the help in getting the notch's dual mc in - it works great and has now brought me to the front brakes, which are in need of some work. I have got a set of front brake shoes which I thought were correct, but when I took the shoes of the car they didn't match. What I am wondering is, are the shoes that were on the car correct for this year? Judging by the very unmodifiedness (not a word) of the car, I would assume that they are original, but I would hate to go find new shoes only to learn that I had the wrong backing plate, etc.

Here is a pic of the shoes that came off the car:

Here are the shoes that I have, which look different and are too large. Maybe a later model year?

Just in case, here is a shot of the backing plate and wheel cylinders:

Thanks for your opinions. If I do need different shoes, does anybody have a set? Wink

Ben

What year is your car???
The shoes you bought look like the ones from my '64 T-34.

But your springs are different than mine. Nothing else, have your old shoes rebuilt. That is what I am doing with mine.

I think this is a question for Notchboy. The early T-3 brakes expert.

The ones in your pic look a lot like the new ones that I have and less like the ones I took off the car! Its a 1963 Notchback.

Thanks!

Ben

Ben, the ones that came off the car are the correct ones for the '63's. The new ones that you bought look like the 64-65 variety. Keep looking for the correct ones, they're out there. BTW are there more pictures of your car???

The ones that came off are "correct". Its as you stated the new ones holes do not line up with the 61-63 style spring used. They changed the arrangement in 64. You can take your old ones and have then re-shoed. Alot easier than tracking new ones. You see alot of pads on German Ebay all the time just for this aplication. The hard part is finding an old school shop that can do the work, but they are out there. If you purchase pads, make sure they are 50mm.

when I did my 64 I noticed the fronts were the same as the rears. maybe a mistake, but they worked good. I never had a problem. I did drill new holes to match the old ones that came off. wierd

I have noticed that too about the fronts on a 64-65. I never wanted to say they were inerchangeable as the fronts should be 50mm with the rears only being 40 to 45 mm wide? I have to double check the parts book tonight because I wana say 50mm will fit the rears as there looks to be enough room. Russ you know off the top of your head? Because also if you look at the new ones above they have the slit for the park brake rod. Good call Erik.
