Thanks guys

So far not many problems driving. My oil filler fell off and threw oil everywhere, like everywhere. I ended up putting loctite on the nut, but I think I'm going to get one of those cb filler towers. Don't know if it'll clear the hex bar.

A big motor is nice, I can feel the power but not the speed. I think that's just the 002. It feels like it wants to go faster.

Have you fixed your oil line set up or is it still hose clamps and zip ties? Why do you want the cb filler tower?

You correct, the 002 is limiting your speed. I've found that 60 is the sweet spot for my engine but I have not been paying attention to my speed a few times and hit 75. With my set up at 60 I get 23mpg on the highway, it did take thousounds of miles of treading to accomplish this. I'd say you will like the torque of the 002 off road.

Only thing I plan on changing in the transmission is dropping some lsd. I'm just so used to barreling around in a bug. But the truck is so much smoother. I hope I can get 23mpgs, now that gas is going down (wont be for too long) I can afford to go places.

I said F it and am going to have VW paradise do all AN. My rig isn't leaking, but it worries me. I want to get a breather tower for an easier way to get oil in and I need a breather. Seems convenient.

How are your carbs jetted? Are you running points or electronic ingintion? With the right jets and timing set up you should get close.

zf, if I can find one. or go with my idea to get a 5 speed.

I need to rejet the carbs because I'm using what they came with out of the box; which is a bad idea.

Maybe just some tweaking. All I changed on my IDFs were the main jet and the air correction. I'm also static timed at 12* with an 009 and Pertroinx.

Rich what is your max mechanical advance once you static time it?

I'd be interested if a single cab with gates up or down improves fuel economy more.

Once I get my fuel gauge and speedometer, I'll try to test that. I don't think there would be much of a noticeable difference. Did you ever see that episode of mythbusters where they tested it on a regular truck?

The CB filler clears the CB hex bar, don't know about others.

To be honest, I don't know. The engine has been through some changes in the last 19,000 miles and this current set up is working best. Easy startups, smooth running, lots of power and good milage. Originaly it was around 9* over time I have gradually moved it to where it sits today at 12*. Besides how the engine sounds and feels the only other guide I've used is the plugs and they look fine. I know you are way into the Dwell settings, I've never put a Dwell meter on. All done by feel. Maybe not the best way but it's working and is say working well. Smile. The Pertronix is really nice and made a major difference in the over all smoothness and milage. I would recommend it.

I have seen that Mythbusters episode. Tailgate up for best milage. All those fools you see driving with the tailgate down don't know what their doing.

But that was on a truck with an 8' bed, does that extra foot move the goalposts at all? Razz

Or perhaps thier bed needed cleaning and they were double tasking?
