Do I have to use stroker pistons for a 78mm stroke?

You don't have to but it will make assembly easier.

I wouldn't build a 78 mm crank without B pistons , use the stroker pistons and keep your motor narrow

I recommend switching at 76mm.

74mm w/5.4 or 5.325" rods and A pistons
76-78 w/5.5 rods and B pistons
82 w/5.4" rods and B pistons.

Listen to John. I had a 2010 that didn't have "stroker" pistons, and it was probably close to 1/2" wider then stock (barrel shims). The engine itself ran great, but trying to fit it a bug, plus exhaust and other issues, really made it a challenge.

78 with stock rods you will have to deck the case zero, .020, .040, or .060 depending on which "B" pistons and cylinders you get.

What does that mean? Are some "B" pistons and cylinders longer/shorter than others???????

To piggyback going from a 69 to 78crankshaft we cut the barrels down .60 on the 1914 build. Stock rods. alum case so now I would need 5.5 rods?

78 + b pistons and 5.5 long rods and about a .020-.040" shim under the barrels. better yet just get a 82 stroke crank.

no, 5.4 would be about right.

no 5.4 is too short unless you cut the cylinders/ deck the crap out of the case.

78+5.4+.020 barrel shim+B Mahle pistons+a slight deck resurface to an OE case put me right around 9:1 CR. Pretty much stock width, super happy with it.
