|
|
I have my '61 sprayed in Ruby Red and am ready to paint the wheels to appear stock. I have seen wheels painted both ways: White on the outer/Red on the inner part of the wheel and Red on the outer part/White on the inner part. Which way did they come from the factory? The only "original" wheel to the car looked like it had a gray color on the outer part. So many choices and sooooo confused. _________________ 1965 Herbie Replica. 1776cc dual Kads.

I have a pair of wheels off a Ruby Red Beetle, Cadmium Red and Stone Beige. Fantastic color. Here is an original paint example.

That above is a nice example is how Ruby Red wheels came from 1961 to 1963. 1961 being the first year they put the darker color on the inside hub of the wheel. Which to my tastes, works quite well. You get nice contrasts that way, chrome ("bright"), dark, light, then dark for the tire... concentric circles, and if you have a narrow whitewall, add two more contrasting circles as well. (now, wide whitewalls don't work as well with that style)

I know I've mentioned it in,one of the other 91 threads, but red ring on the outside would tend to make the cars wheels look like the ones tat came with the hot wheels toy cars.

Looks like I will be painting the inner part red and the rim stone beige or pearl white. Thanks for all of the info...and yes...next time I will search more carefully. Point made _________________ 1965 Herbie Replica. 1776cc dual Kads.
