There are 2 holes on the right side of the engine compartment, on my 1964 Ghia and I was wondering if any of you guys might speculate what they couldda' been for? ...there are a couple more in the front right wheel well...

Might have been for hoses on air conditioner install?

An AC install would likely have the holes on the left side of the engine compartment but you never know what a PO had. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

While we may not know for certain, I suspect that the PO had a drill (or at least access to one).
Perhaps the car was being lightened for racing. |

I looked under the dash to see if there were any signs of an a/c unit and there are a few screw holes on opposite ends, under there, but no others.
...unlikely were drilled to lighten car for racing, although that is amusing. It does have a 1600 single port, which is faster than a 40 horse...LOL, if I was gunna race, I'd use a nice late 80s supercharged MR2 or a fast :-)twin turbo Evolution 8, to begin with...
Guess, i'll just cover the holes up... _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

My `71 convertible had dealer installed AC, and those two holes where used for the lines into the engine compartment. The holes are on the drivers side. The holes had a plastic grommet to keep the rubber AC hoses from chaffing against the metal. |

can't imagine an a/c lasting too long in an early aircooled VW...glad it's no longer in there...if it was, I'd remove it and sell it. That's just asking for trouble. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD
