It has been my experience that main seals leak worse at lower rpm. Perhaps you have done more freeway or constant driving as opposed to stop and go driving lately. That mignt explain the slower loss of oil...
Anyway, hope the seal fixes the problem! |
Funny, the opposite seemed to be true here. After sticking around town for a week or so, I put some highway miles on it the past few days, and it's still leaking as awesomely as before.
I was under there changing the oil tonight, and took a closer look at the trans for the first time. Seems like I should have that thing out in about 45 mins??? It almost looks too easy to be true... _________________ I like Volkswagens. |

Removing the trans really is not hard to do. You can see everything you need to remove pretty well. The only real PITA is the clutch slave. You'll need to decide to either remove the hydraulic line and plug it (usually my preference) or remove the slave with the line attached, which takes some finagling with the slave bolts. YMMV. BTDT.... |
I replaced the slave about two weeks after I bought the van. I wish I had known then that the rear main was about to quit. _________________ I like Volkswagens. |

So what was the outcome with this? I am in the middle of replacing my flywheel seal as we speak. All the same symptoms, crappy orange seal put in myself about 2009 soo.... _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |
