|

So i built a narrowed and adjustable beam for a customer and added a Empi disc brake and drop spindle kit. Everything bolted up great and looks just as good. Now for the problem. Empi states in their ad that this kit adds 1/4'' of width to each side, 5/8'' over all. Now I have checked every ruler, and tape measure I own, and all of them come up to 1/2'' when you add 1/4'' and a 1/4''. Either way this isn't the problem. The problem is I have measured and have 1'' over on each side with a grand total of, you guessed it 2''. I contacted empi and explained what I have and was told that they advertise 5/8''. I asked if it was 5/8'' over all or 5/8'' on each side? I was told 5/8'' each side, and that there are many variables that could give me 1'' over. They even mentioned the control arms being wrong. So here are the measurements I took, taking the control arms out of the equation.

I asked and was told by Empi it was 5/8'' on each side. Basically Empi said we stated in the ad that it adds 5/8'', but what they don't say in the ad is that it is 5/8'' on each side. CB states 7/8'' on either side. This is one of the reasons we opted for the Empi kit. I guess I will just have to build a narrower beam. Here is the finished beam that is now only 1 1/2'' narrower then stock due to the brakes.

Im not sure what brake setup that is, but I bought the newly designed wide 5 kit a couple years ago...also advertised as "0 offset." Its marketing hype. I don't think there is a true 0 offset disc setup. Mine was close to 2" extra track on a 2" beam. It does stink this happens but you have to expect that from places like Empi and aftermarket parts. I bought my Empi kit due to the fact that every other manufacturer was a bit more money. Sorry you have to cut again...your front end looks good! |

It would be nice if Empi would give a true measurement in their advertisements. Here is the solution to the problem. 6.5'' narrowed beam.
