Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Especially now if Cuba gets open trade with the U.S. A vintage VW bus might be among all those classic American made cars from the 50's and 60's that Very Happy they so lovingly preserve.

I think you'll have to wait until there's one for sure that you've wanted for some time from there, then we'll send down three of ours to trade for it.

I don't think you will find much VW stuff. Most of what is there is old American iron.

However, someone from the Porsche club was down there a couple years ago doing some searching around.

There are a few really exotic cars wasting away in the courtyards of a few businesses. Somewhere I have the photos he took of several nearly priceless cars sitting down there rotting away. (can't find the darn file now) Things like early Porsches, Mercedes 300SL Gull Wing, etc.

The old American cars were easy to keep going, but the more exotic stuff just simply didn't have a parts supply. So many of those cars were parked or abandoned a long time ago.

If you do a google image search of cars of Cuba, you won't see any VW's.

Funny thing, one of the networks (NBC?) tonight on the evening news talked about the "old American iron" and within the sequence of short videos and snapshots, there is an old VW engine, part of a pile of parts on the back of a station wagon!

If there are any left and "running", more likely than not, they'll have some kind of different drive train, engine, etc. Lack of access to parts, as already stated, gets the hard core hombres to do whatever they can with whatever they have and/or can find. Cubans are quite resourceful and will even make a part from scratch if need be to keep their "whatever vehicle" on the road! Shocked

We were in Cuba 2 years ago. We saw one late Bay Bus at the airport and a few later model bugs. Probably no more than 25 VWs the entire week we were there.
Yes I also saw that newscast showing the remains of a VW engine in a pile of junk.

And like most tourists there we took a couple of hundred pictures of the cars.
