This is a small boat trailer that I cut down and bolted a deck with a cargo box on it. I had originally bought a cheap jet ski trailer (with jet ski) to build it on. But the guy who wanted the jet ski wanted the trailer.
He traded me for the Coleman Versa-trailer for the jet ski! (posted previously).
Then I got a message from my buddy who goes to estate sales a lot. He said, "I found a trailer for your bus, want me to pay for it and you come pick it up?" I couldn't say yes fast enough!!!
The single wheel still needs lights and the slide in 2" receiver needs some tightening up, but it is a neat little trailer!!!! |

Here is the trailer I built this year for camping purposes. I have added a rack on top as well as a bike fork mount. It pulls very easy behind the bus with no wiggle. It's also completely weather proof. I love it.

This may be the inspiration that I need to redo my gear trailer. Well done. Just needs a bottle opener. _________________ '73 Westy (dual stock carbs, SVDA w/ compufire)

I've had this trailer for a number of years now. The box was in bad shape, so I replaced it with an "S-Cargo" shell.
My only two problems with it are that it isn't happy unless there is at least fifty pounds of load in it ... wants to bounce and shudder.
And because it's so low and narrow, I cannot see it at all when I'm driving. Maybe I'll put a flag on it.
No issues at all with towing it, otherwise. And I can fit into a long parking space.
The neat thing about these trailers is that they get a lot of attention, particularly from geezers like me who remember them from the fifties and sixties. _________________ -- JLT

It looks in pretty good shape!
Since you're in Sacramento, too, feel free to PM me if you want to come over and take a closer look at mine. _________________ -- JLT

Reduce the tire pressure to 15-20 PSI and try it again. Play with that setting until you find the sweet spot. Just be sure to pump it back up when you put a heavier load in it. _________________ nothing |

I'll try that the next time I have to transport it empty. But that hasn't happened in a very long time, as I only hitch it up when I have a load to carry. And I'll pass that along to Aaron at singlewheel.com, too. _________________ -- JLT

I would love to know more how this was done. Did they build a new frame under or use bus frame...etc. I found many more pics after searching and one thread of a trailer being built. I would like to make one from my '68 donor. The frame is pretty rusted. _________________ 1970 7 Pass/Riviera/Westfalia - Ours

This thread definitely has me thinking...because I found a trailer hitch hidden inside Inga when I stripped out her camper interior. |
