That is nice claustrophobic engine compartment! I bet that every procedure in engine compartment listed in Boxster repair manual starts with:
"1. Remove engine from the car;
2. ..........

157. Replace spark plugs and refit engine into the car."

Since the Boxster is mid-engine, the transmission is the first thing to be removed, so the instructions would be:
1. Remove transmission
2. Remove engine
3. ..........
Very Happy

The Boxster's not as bad to work on as you would think, but it is a little more work to get to things. I haven't done anything that requires tearing into the engine, though. To replace the clutch, you remove the transmission instead of the engine.

When I saw this post, out of curiousity I went and measured the wheelbase of the Ghia and the Boxster. The wheelbase length is identical (or at least within an inch of each other, that's about as accurate as I can get). Not sure about the width. There's much more front overhang on the Boxster. So I don't think the Ghia body would have to be stretched lengthwise to fit the Boxster, but there would be no room to fit the radiators up front. I'm very impressed how they got the Boxster windshield frame to fit the Ghia like it was originally made that way. Great job on combining the two cars.

They did a great job building this car. They basically used the Ghia sheet metal onto the boxter.
There is allot of metal work in this car that most won't even realize.

Check out the site and there are a few pics.

Perhaps like the beetle, VW can bring the Karmann Ghia back, using this as a "how-to".

HMMMM?

Best,

Thom

Get real, it will never be called a Ghia...VW don't own the name, it belongs to Ford.

It will be a diluted modern version that tips it's hat to the original with a couple of design accents...front wheel drive on a Golf chassis and running gear and called the "VW Mistral" Confused

Not being a "purist" I like it. Mine will not be stock or correct when its done. But then it will be passed on and not sold.

After all it is an ACVW not a Porsche.

BTW not so long ago we got Boxter with fire accident (7 days work, two men only to repair wiring, now car starts, drive, etc. ) with solely purpose to make an exact same thing - Boxter Ghia. Will be black top with red interior, not sure yet for the body color - red is not an option! Will show the final result next year.

Audi TT is probably as close as we'll get to a new Ghia.

I kinda like the red car, though I'd have wanted a few things differently. Very impressive work
