Hi so here's my story...
I accidentally left my ignition on pretty much all day and when I got home I noticed it. So I took my red top to get it recharged at autozone and they said that it wouldn't hold charge. I didn't trust them since they had said this before with another battery that I had and I took to Walmart since I had warrantt with them and the battery was fine. Well I ended up buying a charger to charge it myself and I left it a bit too long. I went outside to check up on it and it was leaking a little bit from two holes. Too me it wasn't a lot. How do i check if the battery is good? Should I just connect it to my

AGM ....... Absorbed Glass Mat batteries, which optima is, have very specific charging needs and there are chargers designed to properly charge them.

Tell us about your charger you purchased?
If it was the cheap bottom of the line pushing out 14.4 volts no matter what?
You may have damaged your battery beyond repair by WAY over charging it .

A proper charger monitors the battery and adjusts voltage and amperage accordingly to not over charge and damage a battery.

Google charging AGM batteries and you'll find many stories of ruined batteries and also details on how to properly charge one.

Sounds to me like the battery may be toast now. Just from what you have told us.
I have a battery that is 14 yrs old and still going stong. Why cause it is well maintained.

The leaking is normally from overcharging.

Sounds like your battery is now toast.

But another worry would be where did all the stuff that leaked out go? Thats straight battery acid!

Would there be any danger in me connecting it and seeing if it works?

I had an AGM battery that went bad. It would show 12V but the cranking amperage was at 106 instead of 800. It didnt damage anything, just left me stranded a bunch of times.

it's probably fine if it works, if itdosent work it's probably dead.... the wife says the gell batterys take a diferent charger.but agm is same as the wet/flooded type. I seem to remember some race batterys take a pulse charger. I think our racecar was 16.5 or18 volt and had to be charged after each run.they have a lot of grunt but not very many times so recharging is needed and the electronics&fans ,pumps, computer etc take a good bit of power too. 800+ci high cr takes a good amount of power to crank&run all that stuff. vw not so much. my wifes honda has a battery like a motorcycle...go figure. my brother used to run a lawnmower battery in his charger(73 dodge). diferent things need diferent stuff.
