|
|
So I've decided that I'm going to build speaker enclosures for my 1967 beetle. I've got my supplies and I'm ready to start. I'm using fiberglass to build the enclosures and I want to ask if anyone has any advice on how to use the fiberglass most effectively.
I've used fiberglass before but not for molding and I think I understand the basics, but you can never be too sure. Any help would be appreciated. |

Make a wooden frame ; stretch and staple muslin or old denim over it ; mix fiberglass and spread evenly ....let dry and sand the edges
Do you know that if you put talcum powder on your arms , hands , face and neck that the fibers wont itch as much when you are sanding _________________ 63 two fold rag

I use cheap fleece blankets from Walmart (the ones with print like Holloween on sale). Fleece has a 1 way stretch, meaning pull one way it stretches and the other way it wont. Staple your fleece to the wood frame to get your shape. Coat the fleece in resin making sure to fully saturate it and not get any air bubbles or dry spots. Depending on what you are making, go back and reinforce with fiberglass mat strips or patches, again, making sure there are no air bubbles. Then come the final shaping. I use Rage Gold or Bondo Gold on the cheap to fill imperfections. Then sand and sand some more. Here are some kick panels I made a while back in a afternoon.
Theres a lot of videos you tube too.

So I finished my center piece for the enclosure under the hood. I'm going to make it a U shape. And this will be in the center of the U.

if you frost the plexy the light will disperse better and not have hot spots. _________________ Mario De Leon

I don't know why, but its only in the picture that it has hot spots. you cant see any hotspots when its in front of you. |

So I eventually finished the enclosure. My apologies for the delay. But here it is done and dusted.
