You've all been dropped from my X-mas card distribution list.

There, I finally said it.

I read this post with interest. Yeh the Vanagoners spend a lot of time in their forum. I think it is because it is comfortable in there. I try to get out of Vanagonland once in a while to site, off topic, general chat and sometimes something else draws my attention. It'd be nice to go to various non technical sites and socialize but mostly comment on a thread and it's relativity to oneself. People need to feel comfortable and "safe" visiting other forums, without the concern of being being belittled and /or attacked. I find just about all the moderators fair and non biased but I will state that there are a few who appear to abuse their privileges as moderators. All said and done, I only do Samba as this is where I feel comfortable and final frequently helpful material. It is interesting to me when others share their diverse opinions and can carry on an intelligent conversation on a subject whether they agree or not.

What I don't like is having a Moderator utilizing the "ignore" feature and yet they are free to make any comment whether offensive or otherwise.

How do you know who's a mod in what forum?

I tried looking but couldn't find that info.

At the top of the forum the specific moderators are listed.

Everettb and Jennepher are administrators and can moderate anywhere.
Supermoderators can also moderate in most forums even if not listed.

I assume you're specifically asking about the Vanagon/Eurovan forum.

Sure is a lot of Vanagon/EV stuff showing up in the Site section. Perhaps this lends credence to primary point of this thread.

Again, just 'cause you've got management eyeballz roving around in the murky shadows doesn't mean you've got an effective strategy for moderating a large and growing section; a section that's really a functioning community. It's about perception management, so give that community a sense of collaborative engagement with a readily recognizable list of staff.

No, it's just 4-5 people that are waiting for their 90 day shipment of meds to arrive.

Monthly Breakdown:
First week Vanagons.
Second week Bugs.
Third week Ghias.
Fourth week Misc.

Razz

EDIT:
Well, now this post doesn't make sense since Glenn completely changed his post.

Originally his post said "No, it's just that time of the month."

In reality there are more than one person acting as a Moderator in any one forum. I have experienced this fact many many times. With Samba giving us access to one responsible Moderator, well we can take our problems to that person, or Everett, or Jennepher or SuperSamba to get things straightened out. It's not always the advertised Moderator who edits. I don't like that things can be edited anonymously but at least there are several other contacts that can be made. Perhaps if you've never experienced problems, then you perhaps don't realize the solutions available. IMHO

ps I make DARN SURE that I don't run out of meds Laughing Wink

For all you guys/gals who claim to be so busy and not have enough time you sure do have alot of time on your hands, lol.

Being to busy on this site doesn't mean you're too busy to be on this site, right? I'm beginning to wonder...

Ok, I'll dredge up this thread again. The current T3/EV mod is doing a fine job, but she needs assistance from other time zones in order to keep eyeballz on the prize. Do the thing. It's time.

I'm always open to suggestions or offerings by members we recognize as valuable contributors to be mods.

The Vanagon area (and 2-3 others) could also do with some more OCD members who like to report stuff but I may be spoiled as there are a couple people on here who are great in many other sections for dupes, reposts, etc.

Im sure this will be deleted but my only concern is a mod pushing what they sell. Seems like a conflict of interest to me especially when the OP is not asking for any information regarding the items being sold/pushed.

example:

OP:Im having a problem with xyz how can I fix it?

Mod:Throw that in the trash and buy abc and your life will be better and will look good too.

OP:those parts are too expensive and parts are no longer available, how can I fix what I have

Poster2: go electronic and never look back

Mod: you can get that for abc, ive been using that on my (insert nut swinger name drop here) for years, I only have 2k miles on it now but it works every time.

OP: Does anyone know if I can fix what I have?

Poster3: Yes, take it apart, clean it, replace worn parts, reassemble.

Mod: You dont know what you are doing its no use as you dont have a super expensive diagnostic machine to see whats happening

Poster4: You can get the same results by using easily available diagnostic equipment and using a pen and paper.

OP: I solved the problem, I got a PM and trouble shot with a test light and replaced part x which cost $12. Thanks everyone and Im glad I didnt pay $300 for something I didnt need.

Mod: Ive sold thousands of that particular part and Ive never had a problem or complaint.

Poster5: Its a known problem and has been going on for at least 4 years.

Mod: well I dont use that part on my car because I have the superduper xyz. (insert obvious statement regarding price/part quality). Topic Locked or Deleted

There are a ton of posts like this so I generalized a bit and left names out but Im sure many have seen what Im talking about. I know things will probably not change but had to vent. Carry on.

I agree that would be a concern, especially if the topic was locked.
