I'll give him props for originality. Not familiar with the newer crop of Evinrudes; older models were known for their horsepower, not torque. Might be like making a motorcycle engine transplant.. rev it until it moves.

Even the old 2 stroke Detroit diesels were known for that. Good flatland truck engines not so much on the grades. They'll scream all day though, running a fire pump or pushing a boat. I do love the way they sound.

I cut my teeth on a pumped up 8V71N ... Wink Best sounding internal combustion engines ever produced... our gift from the noise gods..
You can gear anything to pull a grade and a mountain down...

there even using the newest 600+ hp cadaliac engines for outboard engines with ZF trans.oh so sweet bass boat....with 3 on the back!!!
