88 Scirocco rear hatch (open from the inside)

I've got a problem opening the rear hatch. The lock is locked and not working. How can one open it with this problem. Can one open it from the inside of the car?

I haven't had to try this, but if memory serves, this will be very difficult, as the latch is in the hatch and not very easily accessed.

The outside latch is broken on my Golf and I can fold the rear seat down and reach in and trip the latch with a long prybar.

its possible ive done it on my mk2 and mk1 you need a flat head and pretty much to lay on your side or back to get to it. there is 2 levers in there should pull to driver side have a nipple on it
