3 of those are riviera with the squares machined and polished off. the 4th wheel is a formula v wheel (the far right)

may I ask how you know this ? they look exactly like the set I polished and painted back in...the 90's

it's possible I sanded off the raised squares as I didn't ever like them and had a hard time finding them for some reason. this pic as I mentioned was posted here from a seller in Oregon. I sold the ghia I had them on to someone at Bug Haus up here in Seattle so it's very possible they were sold at a bug in and went to Oregon. they were on a 71 yellow vert ghia.

heh, I guess I don't really dispute exactly what they were or even if the one unpainted wheel was part of my set. Laughing

"thin lip" vs "fat lip" on the mags....I'm curious. What years? Why the two official versions?

the fat lip ones are a steel wheel with a mag/aluminum front half.

i have always seen them on 68-69 cars and the later all aluminum ones on 70-72 cars

I have a set with the squares on. How do I find out if they are magnesium or aluminum?

I know this is an old thread, but I've found a set of the FV wheels in 15x5 and would like to know if anyone knows if they will clear Ghia calipers.

Does anyone know what style of lug nuts were originally used with these rims? Also, what size would they be?

+1

I just had a set of these restored and I want to put them on my 66 Fastback, but am not sure what lug nuts I need. Anyone??

I went with 23mm lug bolts with a ball socket and there is about a 1.5mm stick out to the inside of the drums on a T1

I picked up a set of the thin lip Formula Vees for my '68 Squareback. The stock lugs were too short; not enough thread engagement for my tastes. I just went to the junkyard and grabbed some from a new beetle. They are ball seat and about 5 mm longer than what I had. As posted above, they protrude about 1 mm into the drums and rotors. I could have bought new ones and spent $50 or more, but I got real VW ones for 50 cents each.
