|
|
I like driving my VWs daily and dont like the attention a "nice" paint vehicle gets from the cops or thieves. Also I dont like to add any rust to my vehicles.
Anyone ever done a "fake" patina paint job? I just saw a how to on Trucks! and they used brushed on paint in different color layers then wet sanded to give it the "aged" look. I like it cause there is actually paint covering the metal but it still looks old and keeps the bling factor at a minimum.
Please post pics of matched or whole patina rides with products and techniques used.
Thanks

The Jesse James Berg turbo split. Seen it but prefer some color not just all rust. |

I'm also looking for tips to do that. Do you mean some fake patina like the bus beneath?

The panel in the video looks like the jeeps at Disneyland. At 20 feet it looks rusty and crusty but up close you can see the air brush strokes.
I like the two or three color rubbed thru paint look, not so much of the rust.
Can this effect even be reproduced?
Buffed and waxed!!

i love the jesse james bug. i wish there was a "how-to" somewhere on the process. i saw the original show, and in one minute it was unfinished, then "all-of-a-sudden" it was finished! it looks very realistic! |

I heard something about mixing metaldust (the kind of dust you collect after grinding down some metal) and vinegar to speed up the rustproces... then closing it with a clearcoat... |

you can spray gray epoxy primer on top of your paint and then color sand and buff - it will look like the paint has worn off down to the primer if you do it right... _________________ Wish List:

A thin coat of cheap paint (rustoleum??) and wait a year or two and it will be pretty close.
I'M not a big fan of the "gobstopper look" if it makes your car more than two colors tho.
.
I think I will put epoxy primer on all the critical areas and then do the rest in a cheap paint, that way it will fade to rust. Who needs fake rust?? we got the real thing. Proves there is no filler underneath too. |
