John,
That's scary and to make matters worse you didn't have a lot of room to work. The boss the switch went into on the 50 looks more beefy than my '62 does. I've seen photos of 40 hp's boss split from over tightening the switch which fortunately I haven't done. |

Well the engine was out of the car when that happened, so that made it a little better. I think on the later sensors, the threaded portion is steel, not AL/MG alloy.
This issues is that the thread is a taper, and people tighten expecting to feel a hard stop, or "seat" when their isn't one. Hopefully everyone who reads this thread who does not know this already will remember. Just snug it down. If it leaks, you can snug it a bit more later. _________________ John Henry

I'd just like to find one that works...
No one in the Classifieds seems to have one and those that say they do don't want to test them electrically to ensure their function. |

nlorntson----I'd just like to find one that works.
I inquired to a friend in Sweden concerning the split senders hoping to come up with something, but he is having the same problem. I recently bought a Hella sender for the '62 and although it is Hella made in Germany it only has 5 threads which really is not enough to seat well. I'm using an old one that still works.
Hope you find a good one or two. |

I told you I tested mine. And it didn't work. |
You did Ev and you were not even advertising it. You went over and above to check. You are the lone exception however |

Did anyone adjust the tiny screw under the main screw before you decided it didn't work? I was able to adjust it with my smallest eyeglass screwdriver and it did change when the red light came on for sure. Trouble was oil leaked out of the hole after loosening the inside screw. |

Oh wait a minute. It didn't work. Look close at the pics, I ended up deep slotting it with a tiny dremel bit and getting it out with a screwdriver. You can see I went right out to the threads with the slot.
Somewhere in here I posted a thread about the ordeal... |
Yes, as evidenced by your eloquent and illustrative diagram of the process shows.
John, you've raised mechanics to quasi-dentistry level.
Thanks for elucidating for all to share!
