I have not had a chance to run it yet so not sure how loud it is. I'm still waiting on a few misc parts before I fire my rebuild up for the first time, so it will be awhile sorry. Temps dropped here this week and we are in single digit temps so I'm going to wait a bit as well, don't want to do my first startup in 0 degrees

All right I finally finished putting my little 1835 together and started it up for the first time. The exhaust is nice and quiet just how I like it.
I'm breaking in the cam so it's running at 2k rpm in them video and I do rev it up once or twice. For those of you that look close yes the final pipes that normally go through the bumper are on backwards so the exhaust goes out the garage door. I have my heater running in the garage so it helps push out the exhaust.
This will be the only video for a bit because I have 2 oil leaks that need fixing before I run it again, one leaky Jaycee pushrod tube & all the full flow connections leak. It's my first build so I guess hoping for no leaks was silly but I'll fix it. Still cold in Chicago so I have plenty of time. All in all I'm very happy with the exhaust

Sounds great! Almost like a stock bug exhaust, without the "pea shooters"...

I'm reading this thread with a lot of interest. The exhaust I currently have is very nice but I am told not too suitable if I plan on enlarging the displacement.

Since this is suitable for an 1835cc, I assume this would be suitable for a 1776cc. Would it be suitable for a 2110cc?

Secondly, since I have a '74, I don't have the gas heater. I would like to have heat, however. Is there a non-J-tube option?

Obviously, you think highly of Kevin (and Vintage Speed) to be mentioning him by first name. I take that as a positive. I'm usually reluctant to contact a seller with a question if I don't know them as I have to evaluate them as a straight shooter or a bull shooter. Wink Thanks.

They do sell j-tubes in stainless if you don't want the heater boxes. I believe my set up is good up to 125 HP but vintage speed can verify.
I delt with MT at vintage speed and he was very helpful

That should be more than plenty if true (although my mind started wandering into the realm of Type IV engines again). Rolling Eyes

Although I am still scouting for my January top down day, I needz me warmth most of the time as a life long warm weather person.

Not to self Jaycee pushrods leak, I have tried 3 times to get these things to seal and no luck. I replaced the seals twice with the ones Jaycees sells then tried the empi silicon ones people seam to like. I will keep one or two for an in case of emergency situation and pitch the rest. I have the heads back off now and am going to the windage style.
I did run the engine again and am very pleased with how quiet the engine runs. The loudest part is the air being drawn in when I rev it up. When I have it in the car with the oil bath back on I assume it will be even quieter. Not what the hotrodders wanna hear but I like it

That is a very quality part, however a true 4 into 1 collector will pick up about 10 horses on that engine. Kinda the price you pay for a stock style exhaust. Like the fiberglass buggy guys that run a split "duel cannon" exhaust, they are loosing 7-10 horses over a stock exhaust. But they look cool
