I got the rear cowl painted yesterday and installed an old Volkswagen script i had laying around. I've seen the script here before, but can't remember where i saw it. I think someone else on the forum might have done this. Anyway, it looks cool.

We did something similar but I like your placement better.

Well, at least your placement allows for a lic plate. I'm also thinking of putting the VW circle on the one piece hood as well. Stay tuned.

Looking really good.
I love polished aluminum. Wonder if a light clear coat might keep em nice for awhile.

Worked on the interior yesterday and today. I went to Home Depot and bought some make shift sound deadening tape (I think they sell it for ducting repair) and some rubber backed carpet for the headliner and rear tray. I wanted to get at least the headliner in before i installed the windows to keep the glue huffing to a minimum (I kill enough brain cells painting). After i installed the headliner i got my wife and daughter to help me install the windows. The last time i installed the glass myself, i used some no brand (empi) rubber seals and i really struggled to get all the glass in. This time i bought bug pack rubber and let me tell you, the difference and ease of installation was night and day. I will from now on buy Bug Pack window seals. There was no pounding on the windows whatsoever, just some slight pressure and just pull the string from the inside. It took us less than 20 minutes to install all 4 windows. I was thrilled. Here's some pics:

Thanks Chopper. It really looks better out in the sun too. I'll roll it out one of these days and take some pics of it sun bathing. The black and silver are metal flake, so it shines good.

I finished up the interior as far as i'm going to take it. I recovered the front seats and rear bench and glued some carpet to the floor. I still have to finish the dash though, more on that later.

I also started on the wiring. I used a 68 bug steering column because the 71 column was all butchered up. The key hole was popped out and the blinker assembly was junk. I'm currently trying to wire the car like a 68 so that the blinkers and lights and such work the same. I had some switches from a 68 (lights, wipers, emergency flasher) that i'm going to use as well, so i can pretty much follow the wiring diagram of a 68 to get everything working.

I bought a 10 gang fuse block with a cover to use for everything and made a mounting plate to cover the stock hole.

While i'm waiting for electrical parts, i got the rest of the motor put together. I still need to install the oil cooler, which means i have to take the shroud back off, but i want to clean and pressure test it before i stick it in there. I bought the HPMX 40 carbs a couple years ago when they were on sale and i was finally able to build a motor to use them on. Assembly wasn't too bad, the instructions sucked as usual but i managed to get them together and get the linkage dialed in. I plan on taking them back off to polish some of the parts before it's all done.

A lot of test fitting and trimming shit to get it all to fit right. The after market stuff looks good, but fits like O.J.'s glove, if you know what i mean.

You know I'm just giving you a hard time buddy, when we fire that beauty up I need to take that linkage and give it a good polishing! Just a little more bling! and she will be just right.

I gave those linkage parts my best polish. They are not perfect, but a 1000 times better then they were.

Got my gauges installed. I almost have all the wiring done as well. I'm just waiting on a flasher relay to finish it up.
