Well I finally got it done. Or at least really close. Still need to cut out the skid plates and bolt them on. Here are some pics with the bumpers powder coated.

I have been following this thread and I am amazed at the level of thoroughness and attention to detail you have shown on your build.
I could picture a man proudly yet hesitantly handing his daughter the keys while explaining again and again about the ins and outs of the car.
It is for this reason tha I I am FLOORED at the sight of this beautiful labor of love on Craigslist of all things. I don't know your reasons (not that you need one). But by the way you spoke about the car you must have a good one.
Once again I salute you and your craftsmanship sir. But why...

Well, to tell the truth I'm not sure. My business allows me a lot of time in the winter and this little car made a great project. I didn't even get to touch it all summer. I work 6 14-16 hour days a week from May thru August, and make most of my living in that period. Now that I'm back down to 1 or 2 days a week (on a busy week and it will get slower: and FYI I love it that way) I have the urge to start another project. My buddy is building a Hybusa Rail and I am getting the HP itch.

I really intended to keep it forever but somehow it was a bit anti-climactic when I got it done. Not sure why, maybe that 50 year old mid life crisis thing, restless leg syndrome, or ................ LOOK, A SQUIRREL..........

The real fun for me was in building it I guess. It's too nice for me to take if off road if I'm not gonna keep it, and I'm not sure I want to keep it. I know I'll take a bath on it regardless but it's worth more right now than it will ever be again so I thought I'd test the water. I think I may on the wrong side of the country, though.

Well, I can definitely understand that. I think alot of us were just really into seeing you do a great job(and things we would like to but can't afford) and hear you write about it. Hey, at least we got to follow a build not seen very often.

P.S. Is there any way you could do another vw based build? Say, a fiberglass manx type... You could go all out and extreme as you want! And when you're done you can let me run over there from Tulsa and gimme a ride in it!
Whatever you do next I'm sure it will be of the caliber we have come to expect from you and thanks for bringing all of us along for the ride.
