I am building a beach bug, with class 11 features. I would like wider stock wheels. It is a '71, so 4 hole. I have 3" lifted spindles I might put on, and crank up the back to match. I think I like the look of smoothies. What would be a good wheel/tire size combination? I dont want to deal with a lot of rubbing issues. I see you can buy new 5 1/2" stock wheels from a couple of vendors, is this visually wider?

I got a pair of 6inch wide smoothies. They are just VW centers cut out and welded into American 15in J x 6in rims.

The new 5 1/2" wheels have a smaller offset and will rub in the back. That's what I had.

You'd be fine just using your stock rims. What size tires are you getting?

I am thinking maybe 235/75/15 for the back, and a little smaller for the front.

I always recommend the setup I had.

215/75-15 front and 235/75-15 rear.

I had 5 1/2" aftermarkets and they would rub the fender when I hit a bump. your stock 4" wheels will do fine I believe. Small wheels give the wheels a round look, which I think is cool. You can see in the picture below where the fender would hit the tire. It wasn't major, but it happened.
