|
|
I have a wider off-road front beam and am wondering if anyone has tried to use castle nuts with carter keys on the ends instead of jam nuts, or pinch nuts?
Pros? Cons?
Thanks, Dan _________________ Project in process. All I need is more CASH.

Pro: nothing over the pinch nuts
Con: more work to drill holes in the rod for cotter pin
In other words, I wouldn't bother. Go with the pinch nuts. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I'v used both and recently had some pinch nuts back off. When I tried to tighten them I broke the head off of one of them. Castle nuts just seemed like the most secure way to make sure they won't back off.
Thanks, for the replies. _________________ Project in process. All I need is more CASH.

What are your thru rods made of? Chromoly or a softer material?
The thru rod pinch clamps work well.
On my own I am using Chromoly thru rods with a nut welded on one end and a pinch clamp and a thin jam nylok nut. Never had a problem.
Also are you using Delrin beam bushings or urethane. Delrin does not wear as fast as urethane, so you are not always having to do adjustments on thru rods.
I also use Torrington bearings instead of a nylon washer as bearing surface between the washers under the pinch clamp and other end against the trailing arms. _________________ Joseph
