|
|
I drove my 85 VW Cabriolet yesterday. The high was about 40 degrees. It reminded me of an issue I wanted to ask the board about. Thick Transmision oil. Until the engine warms the tranny, I can really feel the thick cold oil. Everything shifts, but the lever is slow and sticky for a time.
I am sure I have the proper viscocity oil in the box, and I never remember reading that folks change that in the winter.
Is all this normal? |

I changed my transmission fluid to Mobil 1 synthetic ( 85-90 w or 90-140 w , I forget which ) in both the 91 Jetta & 69 Bug . They shift great no matter how cold it gets .
I've been told Amsoil is even better , haven't tried it yet . _________________ Currently own : 1969 Beetle w/ 1600cc, Single Port, Solex 30 PICT 2, Dist. 113 905 205 T, stock exhaust.

I have also used Redline gear oil. Good stuff also. A synthetic will always perform better than a non-synthetic, and newer lube will be better than old dirty lube. |
