Prepping to spray primer on my 70 convertible. I removed the hood, truck, and fenders and was wondering is there a set way to put them all back on? Or better yet, is it easier to paint them when they are already back on the car. Thanks in advance. |

Like far rider said, off the car.
This is the way I was taught by a paint/body guy..
Get all your body work done, and parts all finished out in primer, then fit them to the car. Get your hood gaps, fender gaps, decklid gaps all set. Make sure your hood latch works right and is all adjusted. Use some tape to mark the hood and decklid brackets so they will bolt back on in the same place.
After you make sure everything is gonna fit right, pull them back off and paint.
Then you can just bolt everything back on, and spend less time adjusting it all.
There is less risk of scratching up your nice new paint job this way. |

Get your fit/adjustments right first but I'd say paint them off. Easier to do your jams, door edges, door bottoms etc. _________________ 67 zenith blue sunroof

I am currently in the step of my restoration process of my 70 ghia coupe. It is best as they said to primer everything all bolted up, and get your gaps corrected before paint.
Mark everything to the best of your ability to eliminate to much adjustment.
It is best to paint everything off the car, but if your paint is metallic you need to hang your doors next to their respective openings so you can paint them as you paint rest of body. Metallics have a tendency to move as you paint. So you can't paint the doors flat otherwise the door metallic wont match rest of the side of vehicle. Hopefully that made sense.
Ferrari Argento Nurburgring Silver is my color choice. A lot of Porsche 356 guys recommended it as an alternative to the Porsche 356 Silver Metallic.
It is very high quality metallic silver. Uses only fine metallic in paint.
Painting with all Matrix paint products. |
