"Baking soda" Not really. Sodium bicarbonate true but it is manufactured specifically to be used as a blast media. It is a good material to clean delicate materials like aluminum, glass and plastic. It can be cleaned off with water to leave no abrasive materials behind. Good for engine parts. Under high pressure it can remove paint slowly but will not remove rust. Thanks for asking.

Ahh, I have used actual baking soda (Arm & Hammer), to blast an engine case and other parts. Came out very, very nice.

Awesome! Good to know about both. So it doesn't involve dropping mentos into coca cola?

Ha! The former nasa rocket scientist who taught me how to rebuild a VW motor once said "better to be a smart ass, than a dumb ass".

Seriously though, thanks for the info.
