Duh, I thougt you were reusing heads in the picture. For L3s, if you want a specific CR you could have them flycut.

I'm not savvy enough to get into trying to optimize various CR's. I'll do some searching to see what I can glean on the subject.
Thanks |

John, I dropped you an email earlier this week, and I think Channa was going to touch base with you on it when she had a chance.
Thanks |

So I have a question on shrouds. I've skimmed through the Official Upright Fan Shroud thread, but didn't really find my answer. I might be splitting hairs, but figured I'd ask.
I picked up a different fan shroud to have sandblasted and powder coated as mine has some dents and gouges. But upon closer inspection, there are some minor differences that I am not sure what the effect would be.
The black shroud is the one I took off the current 1600dp that I had. The primered one is the spare I grabbed.
Can anyone discern the difference? Aside from the different indent on the top front, the primered one has a few different cutouts, and slightly different internal fin.
Thanks |

Are you using an early style oil cooler, or a doghouse cooler? I think both of those shrouds are early style ones. _________________ "A petrol engine can start readily, run smoothly and give every appearance of being in good order, without necessarily being in good tune." - Colin Campbell, "The Sportscar Engine" |

I am not switching to a doghouse cooler, and had planned on using the one that was one my current engine. (black) |

I can see they need cleaned real good.as for witch is beter???the white one looks like it would have more equal air to both sides with the botomhaveing no turn down, but that turn down may be a lator peice that was determaned to be needed so.....filp a coin...use the latest it possiably has the latest factory mods...or not.could just be diferent manufacture plant.if you can get the wide fan to work I would use it.(37mm) |

Thanks, I was kind of thinking it might be 6's on which to use. I'll get them both cleaned up good, and test fit during assembly and go from there.
Thanks |

Ive never ran a vw shroud,so im no exspert on them.... is there any way to identfy them? is there any part numbers on them??I see they have some different small cutouts I presume for the flaps(Ive never used those either) I would think somebody would be an exspert on what was what and when it was and possiably why,but the why would be openions and we all know about those . my old shroud is the only one I didnt buy new (36 doggy style) my other shrouds I bought new,1 scat&3 empis'.I personaly dont see any reason to use an old beatup shroud that needs work&cleaning&whatever and most are full of holes for whoo knows what or why. I doubt there is any diff in cooling between any of them why would somebody make somethen that didnt work ( I do have 1 old AC shroud in a shed,I doubt Ill ever use it.) |

I guess I looked at the original VW shrouds as that seems to be the recommendation over aftermarket. However, I am understanding that you can find any opinion online to really support whatever it is a person can think of. But yeah, that's why I didn't purchase a new shroud.
Although I did buy new breastplate and sled tins from ACN, I guess when they arrive if they are not as poor fitting as the internet would leave you to believe, I might just buy a new shroud. It would probably be cheaper than powdercoating. |

My new Empi 36 horse style Fan Housing dropped my Cyl Hd temps about 10 degrees F from the Stock old one but the heater ducts where blocked off and the sides where modified for the Webers to fit. This is on a 2276. _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

I received my case back today from the machine shop.
I guess I may have a slight problem, not sure though. I had them bore the case for the AA 94's, but I guess I was under the assumption that the cylinder bore opening would be bigger than 90.5mm, is this correct? If so, it needs to go back to be bored out to the right size. |

Which cam did you end up with, 163? Still planning on using L3 heads?

I went with the Web 163 cam, and yes the L3 heads are on order. There was a delay on figuring out the specs needed for the heads but it sounds like maybe 2 weeks out before they are ready with the balanced rotating assembly. My case should be back later this week, so with any luck I can start doing some test fitting by the end of the month. |

Cool. I also got most parts for my first stroker, need to have parts balanced now. Doing a similar build as you.
