|
|
As I am sure most of you have seen, there is a 1950 Split body and pan in the classified section. I have been trying for a week now to get the guy to actually quote a price or agree to some type of offer but the only response I can get is "thanks for the interest".
I am now looking for opinions on what would be a good cash price to offer him, and since my knowledge of splits is very low and this is a 100% stripped body and pan, where should I start.
My plan would be a big engine street car so the lack of stock split body pieces isn't a huge issue since I can source oval or later pieces for now.
So lets here it....if you were in my shoes what would be a reasonable offer for this car?

41 views so far and no opinions?......maybe just rough estimate?
I am looking to buy a car in the next two weeks and I doubt I'll get another response from the seller unless I show up in person with cash in hand. |

I know nothing about the seller and have never had any dealings with them but that stripped body and pan has been listed for much longer than the most recent original listing date and if I remember right, it used to be listed at somewhere around 10-15k.
Either way, the seller is obviously not in a hurry or in a need to sell. |

That's what I was afraid of, there are complete cars out there for less than that. Hoping some of these split guys can give me real world prices for a body, pan and front beam.
My last offer was $3000 just to try and get him to quote some kind of price but he won't return my emails and PM's now.
Looks like i'll be going for an early Oval instead unless someone knows of another split out there for a reasonable price. |

i think you are right on with what you should pay for a pan and stripped body. However, i doubt you will get that particular one.
Are you sure you need anything but the body for your plans? _________________ regards

I wouldn't turn down a more complete car, but I am looking to start a complete pan up build. 2000+ cc engine, full syncro transmission, dropped beam and all that. Stock body and as few mods to the actual pan as possible.
I have tracked down a '55 oval that needs pans, heater channels and slightly less to have a complete body for quite a bit less money....but i'll be 3000 into that car before its a solid rust free body/pan. |

Buy this http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1731031
Sell off running engine and build what you want. It would be much cheaper probably than buying that bare shell and putting all needed parts into it _________________ '67 deluxe bus w/the little windows

That split was listed at $16K and even though he's playing hide-n-seek with the asking price, apparently the asking price is still at $16K. I had offered the asking price to a seller like this once and still got the same run around. Now when I see, ask, make an offer, or a list of demands, I just keep on going.
You have probably seen this one already, but there's more to work with, the asking price is visible and less.

The red car is nice but I would change everything about it since I really hate red, the other car is a great start but I would be looking to pay half of his asking price. Thanks everyone, I think I'm passing on the split. I'll pick up a cheap oval and add the split window kit for effect. |
