Installing a 2.5 in an early bay window. Are you guys using the stock vanagon pump? Or should I be looking for a different setup? Thanks |

The stock vanagon pump works fine for my 2.5L Subi conversion in our 84 Westy. _________________ Joe

I thought early bay vans were carbureted with mechanical fuel pump. My '73 Westfalia was. Anyway, the stock 1986 Vanagon fuel pump has worked fine for my 3.3 litre EG 33 conversion. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

What year bay? FI bay, you could use the Bay Pump. If your bay is carbed, then you will need to add a return fitting to your tank. Since you are in the process of converting a bay to Subaru power, you might find fuel pumps from the aftermarket for a more reasonable price and have some higher availability. There is nothing special about the Vanagon fuel pump. You need to look at the volume requirements. Pressure should not be an issue with any pump that supports EFI injection. Sounds like a nice ride. Look over at Summit Racing, or Autozone. _________________ ☮️ |

It's a 69 single cab. Was carbed. I'll add return line to the filler neck.
Was leaning towards the Vanagon Bosch pump because they seem to have good reliability. But they do come at a cost.
Who is the go to vendor for these pumps?
Another option at a big price.

Ideally the return would return under the fuel level. When it returns to an airspace it does get aerated some. _________________ ☮️ |

Rather than add a return, put a tee under the tank outlet and run a '90 Cabriolet fuel filter (holds about a quart IIRC) between the tee and fuel pump inlet to act as a swirl pot. People have been using a tee to handle the return line on FI-converted early Bays for years without issue. |
