|
|
Hey Guys need some help,
My family has had a beautiful 79 911 targa for a few years but it has an issue where oil is some how getting in the heating system and burning off, thus causing lots of blue smoke to come up through the vents,
Any ideas on how this is happening? how to fix it? and how to get the oil out of the heating system?
Thanks!

Valve cover gasket leaking onto the heat exchanger, or oil leaking from head gasket area....or any number of leaks around the engine that may be dripping onto the heat exchangers. Ray |

I know this is old but here's another possibility (it happened to me):
If the oil is coming out in the front center of the engine-
The oil thermostat has o-rings around it and they are failing. It is a cylindrical
device that goes in vertically from the top in the front part of the crank case. Ahead of the fan, You have to take the engine lower but not remove it. Possibly take loose a few hoses. With the car up on stands support the engine, remove the rear support bolts then lower the engine. Perhaps the shift linkage will bind up so find out about that.
