Digging up this thread to ask the same question for the '55.
I have a wiring diagram for the '54 oval, and it references a 1-fuse box, and a 3-fuse box. The 1-fuse box is somehow tied into the brake lights, and the 3-fuse box is farther down the line.
Where are these physically located on the car? I know about the 4-box behind the speedo and the 2-box on the driver's side up by the side of the gas tank. But are there more fuse boxes elsewhere?
This may be why I can't get my brake lights working.

Perhaps checking the 1955 manual in the technical section above
In 1955, the fuse box moved to a 6 fuse box under the instrument panel IIRC _________________ .ssS! |

Thanks. That was a good suggestion...there was no 1955 manual, but I clicked around on the '54 manual and learned there were only two fuse boxes. What I was seeing was actually this junction.
It was published in the Clymer manual, but it was printed so small I couldn't tell that it was a junction instead of a fuse. So now I'm looking for the physical location of the junction instead, but I'm not as hopeful that my brake light problem is a simple fix. _________________ Have nice 914, want nice Bug |

The junction for the brake lights would typically be in the engine compartment, behind the passenger sidewall insulation panel. |

you may need a new switch. Connected to the end of your master cylinder. |

That's what I thought. But I was able to use a test probe to prove that the switch at the master cylinder is working. I think the next step is to get some alligator clips and verify my grounds are good. I can only get some parts of my brake lights working and turn signals flashing at the same time...so I think its grounds now.
It's aggravating! _________________ Have nice 914, want nice Bug |
