I'm looking for a pic of a drain hole or a Vw emblem on the heart taillight.
The one in the pic above is a snowflake and is a bit later,
Thanks |

Look again...that is a heart tail-light. Heart lens up top, out of view. _________________ "Criticism comes easier than Craftsmanship"

Did the early hearts come with a drain hole.
I have conflicting things I have read. Trying to make sure mine aren't repops.
Were the inner tabs that hold the spring on different on the repops? |

no hole on the first ones, just after they realized there'd be problems. You can find it in progressive refinements I think? Pix for us to see if they might be repros please... |

The drain hole was added on 18 October 1954, meaning the heart housing pictured above did not come from a U.S. or Canadian market car. _________________ Thanks,

Jan 1955 should have been the first month of the 1955 model year and was the first year for no semaphores for U.S. market cars (thus no heart tail lights for those '55's) and the first year for official U.S. market bugs. So in reality there was never a U.S. market bug that ever had heart tail lights. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Just want to make sure they are correct before I sell them.
Thanks in advance

They are not correct for a '53 US or Canadian car, vert or no vert. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Great contribution to this thread everyone.
I hope I can include my comment question as I was not able to find an alternate thread to post to. If there is, please reply with the link and I'll delete my post and correctly re-post the question.
From the Progressive refinements catalog, there is no mention of the word Heart tail lights that I can find. So I assume that they are called Rear Reflectors or Stop lights. So with that said, was the heart tail light introduced on March 31, 1952 or October 1, 1952?

"Heart" tail lights were introduced at ch. 1-0397023, October, 1952 (per Car of the Century)
It is my understanding is that "hearts" were changed to "eggs" for USA bound cars only in 12/54 at ch. 1-05754165...Euro cars continued to utilize "hearts". My 1/54 has hearts and is a Euro-spec car... a 12/54 car, I once had, was a US spec car and had eggs.

Actually, "egg" lights were introduced on 1 October 1954, at 1-0722916 and the drain holes were added on 18 October, at 1-0734000 (both per Progressive Refinements). 1-0575415 was the start of the 1954 model year on 21 December 1953.
Bernie, was that 12/54 car you had the brown one with lots of undercoating or the one with the faded red repaint (or neither)? _________________ Thanks,
